Wilbern Elgin Lossing 93, of Prineville, Oregon passesd away January 31, 2010. No service will be held at this time. Wilbern was born on April 10, 1916 in Dunseith, North Dakota to Bernice James and Mary Emma (Clark) Lossing. After he graduated from high school he worked a few years before entering the U.S. Army. Wilbern entered the Army in 1941 and served until 1945. At which time he completed his tour of duty in The Aleutian Islands. After the service he worked as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic for Pitchford and Sons in Eugene, Oregon. He then moved to Palmer, Alaska. He also worked in the mines on some of the smaller Islands in Alaska. Wilbern married Violet Mace on November 15, 1952 in Vancouver, Washington. His hobbies included: painting, playing the organ and accordion, fishing in Alaska, building jet boats, hunting big game, dancing, gardening and he built a log cabin in the Alaskan outback. He was a member of the VFW in Prineville, Oregon. He is survived by his stepsons Jack (Mary) Thornburg of Prineville, Or; Jerry Lossing, six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, Tara (Dan) Smith of Prineville, Or; Seven great great grandchildren, Alexis, Preston and Deegan Smith of Prineville, Or. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister. Contributions may be made to: A charity of choice.
