Bobby “Bob”  Phillips Gatlin, 76, of Prineville passed away on Friday November 10, 2017.   There will be a viewing and service at Whispering Pines Funeral Home on Saturday November 18th,  viewing is 9 am to 12 pm with a service to follow at 2 pm.  Pastor Ron Hemphill will be officiating.  After the service there will be a reception at the New Life Bible Chapel – 510 NW 4th Street – Prineville.

Bob was born at home on the family farm on November 9, 1941, near Chandler, Oklahoma, the third of four boys born to Doy and Mary (Miller) Gatlin.

Bob was a man who loved his friends and family fiercely.  He was quick to lend a hand to anyone in need, and spoke from his heart.  His chuckle was contagious and his crooked grin always gave away that he was teasing.

Bob was also a man who loved being out in the woods.  Hunting, camping, water skiing, being out on the boat, and fishing were just a few of his outdoor passions.  He especially loved it when he could share his love the outdoors with his family and friends.  One of his favorite places to share his love for the outdoors was at his rugged self-built hunting “lodge” near Baker City.

The Army is where Bob had the opportunity to realize his dream of flying, not as a fighter pilot, but as a helicopter pilot.  Bob went on to fly helicopters in the Vietnam War where he moved soldiers and supplies.   Bob continued using his aviation skills after the war by flying helicopters for Columbia Logging Company,  Grizzly Mountain Aviation, Inc.

Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon. He will be lovingly remembered by their children;  Jeff (Karilyn), Keith (Heidi), and Cindy (Sam) as well as his wife; Charlotte and her children, Shay (JT), Jason (Lisa), and Justin (Jessica). Bob will also be forever remembered by his 19 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and friends.

It is difficult to capture a man who meant so much to so many different people.  He will be missed.

Contributions may be made to the St. Charles Hospice of Prineville in Bob’s name through Whispering Pines Funeral Home – 3168 NE 3rd Street – Prineville, Oregon  97754.  541-416-9733 or www.whisperingpinesfh.com
