Gloria Ann Anderson

April 25th 1937 – July9th 2017

Gloria Ann Anderson, a beloved wife, mother and great-great grandmother, and retired pastor’s wife, went home to be with the Lord on July 9, 2017 in Bend, Ore. She was 80 years old.

Gloria was born April 25, 1937 in Shamrock, Tex. to parents Clinton and Opal Staggs. Her family moved to McFarland, Ca. and became members of the local Church of God, where she was singing in the choir when she met her future husband, John Clyde Anderson. They were married Oct. 12, 1952 in Las Vegas, Nev. and moved one year later to Antlers, Okla. to build their first home – a log cabin – and farm the land with a team of mules and a plow.

The Andersons answered the call to ministry and were led by God to minister in Oklahoma before pastoring nine churches in Oregon and California, where Gloria would lead singing, read Scripture as her husband preached, and display the love of God to others for His glory. They retired from pastoral ministry at the Traver (Ca.) Church of God in 2000, and soon retired to Prineville, Ore.

Gloria was the loving mother of nine children. She worked many jobs, from picking cotton and cherries to book keeping for the family roofing company, as  well working at the Bend hospital, Freeze Dry Co. and the Salvation Army. To teach her family the importance of education, she returned to school as an adult and received her GED while pastoring in Traver.

After a long battle with cancer, in the presence of her loving and supportive family, Gloria peacefully has gone home to her eternal award.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents; husband Rev. John C. Anderson; her sons Clyde Anderson and Joash Anderson; her sister Mary Allen; her brother Berle Staggs; daughter-in-law Eva Anderson; and grandson Johnny Anderson. She is survived by her brother Paul Staggs; her sister Edna Gonzales; sister-in-laws Lillie Harcrow and Betty Fry; and the following children with their spouses: James and Kathy Anderson of Prineville, Ore., Lillie and Jim Farris of Sweet Home, Ore., Sue and Jack Rowe of Scio, Ore., Jon and Margaret Anderson of Nampa, Ida., Jacque and Steve Freitas of Traver, Ca., Vivian and Jack McFeeters of Stockton Ca., and Ruben and Kathy Anderson of Goshen, Ca.; as well as 19 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Prineville Praise & Worship Church on 905 NW Deer St. with graveside service to follow at Juniper Haven Cemetery, both in Prineville, Ore.
